Our land
Tall mountains, plateaus, sheer gorges, ancient trees, wild herbs, flowers and cool breezes all come together to create a unique micro-climate.
The Mega Spileo Estate is situated in the enchanting environment of the Chelmos-Vouraikos Geopark in the Northern Peloponnese, a blessed land steeped in ancient legends and historical traditions which has been designated a National Park as well as a Protected Area of the Natura 2000 Network. It is also one of the seven Greek Global UNESCO Geoparks, a wider protected area established to safeguard the prosperity of its people and sustainably promote the protection of the local geological heritage.
UNESCO Chelmos - Vouraikos Global Geopark
The UNESCO Chelmos-Vouraikos Global Geopark covers an area of 647 k.m. sq. in the Northern Peloponnese. This mountainous region is home to 27,000 people, who live in villages and towns scattered among its tall mountains and sheer river gorges. The Geopark has been part of the European and Global Geopark Networks since 2009, and was included in the UNESCO program in 2015 thanks to its unique character, a combination of rare geological, natural and cultural elements.

An important national Geotope
The region of Mega Spileo with its unique formations, stands as a silent witness to Earth’s ancient geological history.

Mega Spileo Monastery
The famed Mega Spileo Monastery, a premier Orthodox pilgrimage location and the oldest continuously functioning Monastery in Greece, is located a few minutes’ distance from the Estate. Constructed among breathtakingly sheer cliffs, the Monastery’s atmosphere is one of stately grandeur and contemplation, set against a backdrop of striking natural beauty.
The Cog Railway
Mega Spileo Estate is situated right above the imposing Vouraikos Gorge with its striking natural beauty stretching below. The “legendary” train of the cog railway crosses the gorge and gives passengers the opportunity to enjoy a picturesque and scenic journey from Diakopto to Kalavryta, passing over bridges, through tunnels and next to sheer cliffs! A “must-see” experience for visitors to Greece!
